People who go 'crabbing' are probably familiar with the 'crabpot effect'. You put your captured live crabs into a pot, and they attempt to crawl out. But as soon as one has made it partway up the side, other crabs grasp him and pull him back down into the general population.
Friends of mine who could not have children adopted a little girl from India. She was dark-skinned, and was accepted as Black by the Black kids at the local school they sent her to. She was also pretty smart, or perhaps it was just that her parents were well-educated people who also stimulated her intellectually, but, for whatever reason, according to them, she began to excel at school. And then ... the Black kids, or some of them, began undermining her: "You're acting white!" was their complaint.
We know from the work of the late Judith Rich Harris that, along with genes, peer pressure is far more important than any other environmental influence, in determining how children behave. Bright and/or ambitious Black children face an obstacle that white children don't have, or don't have to such an extent.
The phenomenon of "acting white" has been studied by the academic economist Roland Fryer
[ http://educationnext.org/actingwhite/ ], who provides an explanation for this phenomenon: if you yourself, as a Black student, are, for whatever reason, not going to do well academically, you want an excuse for your own failure. And what better excuse than 'racism'? But Black achievers undermine your rationalization, so ... pressure them to be failures as well, by creating a general social atmosphere where academic achievement is seen as race treason. Then you're not stupid or lazy, you're being a race patriot.
Of course, the Left does its best to reinforce this idea: Black failure is someone else's fault, and any Black who strives to achieve is playing into the hands of the white supremacists by endorsing the idea that achievement is possible to those who try. These people are probably subjectively sincere, but objectively they are pure evil.
